[News] 120413 Good-looking and Young 89-er Musicians on the Rise: The Appearance of “New Species” in the K-pop scene

On the 12th, Busker Busker won the first place on Mnet “Mcountdown” with their debut single, “Cherry Blossom Ending.” At a time when big-name groups are making comebacks, it’s definitely a huge “incident” that 23-year-old Jang Bum Jun’s simple self-compositions are sweeping the digital charts.

Born in 1989, he’s only 23 this year. These “young” musicians are a force to be reckoned with nowadays–not only Jang, but CNBLUE’s Jung Yong Hwa and Yong Jun Hyung are also the same age.

Characteriscally, they are not hermits in their rooms, absorbed only in their music. They have gorgeous looks and successfully incorporate acting and variety show careers as top idols, while displaying outstanding abilities as musicians.

Since Big Bang’s G-Dragon hit the jackpot with “Lies” in 2007, the age of “young producers” is being continued by his 1 year juniors. A birth of “new species” in the K-pop world.

Passion and Ambition in Young Rock–Jung Yong Hwa

Although he rose to fame as a vocal (sic) of the “beautiful” band in SBS “You’re beautiful”, he’s a songwriter who has already released numerous self-compositions. In Japan, he’s written hit singles such as “In My Head” and “Where you are” himself.

Learned to write songs on his own since middle school, he’s known for always working on music following his tight schedules before going to bed. The managers who lived with him were amazed at this habit. Jung Yong Hwa’s biggest goal nowadays is to create CNBLUE’s own style. He forgoed acting in a drama series to concentrate on CNBLUE’s next album for the next 3-4 months. CNBLUE’s lead singles have been written by an outside composer until now, but now that he’s gained confidence in music, he aspires to create the title track on his own.

Jung Yong Hwa said, “it may be risky, but regardless of its popularity, I’ll try to find our style. So far I’ve outlined about 10 songs.”

The subject of his songs is his passion. “Although I like love songs too, I like to sing of passions, ambitions, and aspirations. I’m mostly making songs of young, groovy rock genre,” he commented.
